WinSCP secure file transfer for Windows

WinSCP is a free secure file-transfer client whose home site is:
http://winscp.net/
There are several installation formats. This document describes the usage of the portable executable format meant to be used "as is". You can download version 4.2.3 from the Computer Science server:

Sample Usage

Select server on which you have an account:

Assuming you have an account on the student Linux server roadrunner.cs.wcupa.edu, this is a description of the set-up of WinSCP service to this server.
  1. Open WinSCP by double-clicking.
  2. Type roadrunner.cs.wcupa.edu in the Host Name field.
  3. Type your account user name in the User Name field.
  4. A this point you can click either the the Login or Save buttons.

    Click the Save if you want to be able to reuse this server access later.
After saving, you can open the roadrunner session after you open WinSCP you can just double-click on this line in the Saved Sessions list.

Alternatively, after opening WinSCP, you can click the Load button so that you can modify the session information. Make sure to click Save after any modifications.

Setting an Explorer-like interface and other modifications

The default interface for uploading/downloading files is a Norton Comander-like interface. To change a saved login to a drag-and-drop style Explorer-like interface do the following:
  1. Select the server login line from the list, click the Load button.
  2. Select Preferences and choose the Explorer-like radio button.
  3. Click the Save button and say OK to the popup confirmation and Yes to the second popup confirmation.
Another convenience is to have WinSCP open to the directory on the remote server previously used. To do this, after Loading the selection, click on the Directories choice (below Environment), check the Remember last used directory and click the Save button.
